Earlier studies have proposed the hypothesis that maternally transmitted chemical
information form external environment may serve to program, or alter the endogenous
programs for fetal brain development. In this study we investigated the effect of prenatal exposure to desipramine to the 1, 2 and adrenergic receptors on the development of
postnatal 1, 2 and adrenergic binding sites. Offsprings of rats exposed to water, 15mg/Kg or 30mg/Kg of desipramine. In desipramine exposed pups, 1, and adrenergic binding sites increased at postnatal 7 and 14 days compared to untreated
ones.
And 2, adrenergic binding sites in desipramine groups decreased at postnatal 7 and 14 days compared to untreated group. These results provide new perspectives on the importance and impact of maternal pharmacology with regard to the
postnatal development of normal neurotransmitter in the offspring.
